Dinner Cancelled

Following discussions with Committee members this morning I have decided to cancel the Annual Dinner on 2nd November. We had to achieve a minimum number of 60 attendees, and to date had only 43. Due to the Carlisle fixture being re-arranged Kenny Jackett was unable to attend, plus some other Honorary Members such as Kevin Foley, Mike Bailey and John Richards were also unavailable.

Another symtom is we still seem to have a hang over from the last two seasons which when coupled with me setting the date quite late meant it was difficult for many to attend.

A full refund will be paid to those who have paid any money, and we need to decide what to do instead. We could try again in the New Year, have some sort of Christmas party, or run a couple of trips to key away games. Please tell us what you want and what you think.

POTY Winner announced, and Dinner Date set

We are please to announce that our Player of the Year for last season is Bakary Sako. His performances in what was a dreadful season polled 303 man of the match votes, beating Carl Ikeme into second place on 228, surprisingly Stephen Hunt was 3rd on 211 and Kevin Doyle 4th on 205.

We’ll be inviting Bakery along to the Dinner on 2nd November, we are still ironing out a few details but expect the full details to be available well ahead of Saturday’s game with Sheffield United.

George Dyke RIP

It is with very great sadness that I have to report the recent death of George Dyke on Monday after a very short illness.

George and his son Andy who is also a member regularly attended Wolves as Season Ticket holders for many years, and would always be with Owen Hughes’s group in the Western.

George always had a smile and a witty quip even through the dark days of recent relegations. Like most of us he enjoyed his beer and the camaraderie of being a Wolves fan and going to the Western.

A member and supporter of the DDCWWFCSC for the past few years he will be greatly missed by those who knew him and attended the pub and matches with him.

Our thoughts and condolences go out to Andy, his family and friends. Cheers George, RIP

Happy New Season!

I’m sure we said something similar last year! We never considered relegation prior to the big kick off at Leeds last season so who knows what will happen this time around!

The big clear out hasn’t happened (at the time of writing) and only 1 coming in to inspire us! Our 4th Manager Kenny Jackett in 15 months at least has some experience of where we are playing unlike his 3 predecessors who all failed miserably. Hopefully this one will turn the club around at get it out of the malaise it’s been in for far too long.

Due to continued home defeats and members not wanting to attend over the last 2 seasons we now only have 4 season tickets belonging to the club and up for grabs for each home game. Having lost money on them for two seasons we felt this was an appropriate level for this season. so if you are coming to an odd game please book of of our first and help keep the match ticket facility alive. You can book now for Gillingham on 10th August. The first home game which kicks off at 3pm!

Everything else will be done in the same way as in previous years. Subs are staying at their current level and we’ll be having a do in the Autumn. Still holidays first – see you on 10th August by which time we’ll hopefully have a point or three, and be in the second round of the League Cup! Fingers crossed

Cheers Coxy

Barbecue Cancelled

I’m sorry to report that we have been requested by the Snell family to cancel this year’s Barbecue due to a death overseas in their family. It means that Mike and his Mum will be abroad for a large part of June sorting out family affairs.

No alternative dates and venues are apparent but any suggestions will be considered. Have a good summer, Cheers Coxy

Colin Spencer RIP

Colin Spencer died recently after a short illness, Colin had been a member of the DDCWWFCSC  for several years although he remained on the periphery of the club. A good friend of Grubby and Harrison Riley Colin would often pop up at an away game with them particularly if a few beer were going to be involved.

His last game was away at Sheffield Wednesday in January, where he appeared to be his normal self and enjoyed the weekend is his own quiet way. He will be missed by those that knew him particularly, Grubby H and Trish.

Special Away Ticket Information

Should any of you be looking to go to either the Derby or Barnsley away games and have still to order your tickets, please email Cluff direct before this Friday 18th January. He will then order your tickets before his jaunt overseas.

Arrangements will then be made to collect and distribute them in his absence, this will be done in the Western before the Leeds home game.

A New Year, a New Manager what’s next?

Happy New Year to you all, and a big Wolves welcome to our new Manager Dean Saunders. Having suffered dreadful football all season hopefully we will now start to see improved performances, start getting more points and even a shot or two during home games.

He is a manager that not one of us considered in our many discussions during the holiday period as a replacement to Solbakken, so maybe he comes with less baggage than some. If expectations are low to start with then we will be grateful for any improvement.

I’m sure though that now we’ve got him, we all wish him all the best and hope he succeeds where others simply weren’t good enough.
